At the Marituba Unit, investments in technologies that promote agricultural development, combined with management committed to optimizing resources, have resulted in crop modernization and reduced sugarcane cutting costs. In the 2020/2021 harvest, mechanized harvesting was introduced, which, among its many benefits, leaves straw on the surface, leading to improvements in the physical, chemical, and biological conditions of the soil, creating a more suitable environment for sugarcane growth.
Another innovation is the application of localized vinasse enriched with nitrogen fertilizer, which has made it possible to fertirrigate practically the entire mill’s sugarcane field, providing environmental sustainability through the use of vinasse, which is a waste product from the sugar and ethanol sector, in addition to providing greater savings by reducing the consumption of mineral fertilizers.
The Marituba Unit built the first refinery, which began operating in October 2021, and consists of dissolving the VHP sugar produced and improving its color. In the 2021/2022 harvest, a total of 887,542 bags of refined sugar were produced. The investment added greater value to the final product due to the improvement in quality, in addition to generating more direct and indirect jobs for the local community.
